October '06 - The SCAPE Lab has begun collaborating with IBM research to port the PBPI framework to BlueGene/L, the world's fastest supercomputer. The PBPI code will soon be downloadable at www.pbpi.org.

September '06 - Congratulations to Xizhou Feng et al. The PBPI paper has been nominated for a best student paper award at SC06!

September '06 - The SCAPE Lab received a grant with Crucial Security Corporation to study the impact of HPC technologies on computer forensics.

August '06 - Dong Li and Leon Song have joined the SCAPE Lab as PhD student researchers. Welcome!

July '06 - SCAPE has had a paper entitled "PBPI: A High-performance, Bayesian based Phylogenetic Inference Framework" accepted for SC|06.

February '06 - Congratulations to Xizhou Feng, Rong Ge, and Prof. Cameron on acceptances of their paper entitled "The Argus Prototype: Aggregate Use of Load Modules as a High density Supercomputer" to the journal Concurrency and Computation: Practice and Experience.

November '05 - Congratulations to Rong Ge, Xizhou Feng, and Prof. Cameron for their paper entitled "High-Performance, Power-Aware Distributed
Computing for Scientific Applications" to appear in IEEE Computer, the flagship publication of the IEEE Computer Society.

October '05 - Congratulations to Matt Tolentino on acceptance of his work entitled "Improving the energy efficiency of high-performance server
systems" at the work-in-progress session of one of the top systems conferences, SOSP.

August '05 - The SCAPE Lab received a collaborative grant (with IIT) from the National Science Foundation to study the scalable performance of
scientific applications.

August '05 - The SCAPE Laboratory has moved to Virginia Tech!

June '05 - Congratulations to Xizhou Feng! Xizhou received an IPDPS Student Travel Award to attend the conference and present his work.

June '05 - The SCAPE Lab receieved an NSF REU to support undergraduate students in research projects.

May '05 - Congratulations to Rong Ge of SCAPE on completion of her Master's degree from the University of South Carolina.

April '05 - Congratulations to SCAPE director Kirk W. Cameron on his selection "as the winner of the COEIT Young Investigator Research Award for 2005." This award shows the college recognizes the efforts and accomplishments of the entire SCAPE lab over this past year.

March '05 - Congratulations to Rong Ge of SCAPE on her selection as the year's "Outstanding Graduate Researcher" for the department.

March '05 - Congratulations to Allen Michalski of SCAPE on his selection to attend the meeting of the Nobel Laureates in Landau, Germany this summer. DOE/NSF select about 60 "top young researchers" to represent the US at this event where they will spend a week attending Laureate lectures and mingling with Nobel Laureates and students from around the world. February '05 - Congratulations to Chris Jones and Joseph Turner of SCAPE on their selection to Phi Beta Kappa, "the nation's oldest and most respected undergraduate honors organization."

February '05 - Congratulations to Rong Ge, Chris Jones, and Joseph Turner on their selection to UPE (Upsilon Pi Epsilon), "the first and only international honor society for the computing sciences."

January '05 - Congratulations to Xizhou Feng and Rong Ge of SCAPE on acceptance of their paper entitled "Improvement of Power-performance Efficiency for High-End Computing" to HPPAC '05 Workshop.

December '04 - Congratulations to Xizhou Feng and Rong Ge of SCAPE on acceptance of their paper entitled "Power and Energy of Scientific Applications on Distributed Systems" to IPDPS '05 and their paper entitled "ARGUS: Supercomputing in 1/10 Cubic Meter" to appear in PDCN '05.

October '04 - Congratulations to Chris Jones of SCAPE for selection as a student volunteer to SC '04. Chris' participation in the lab's SC '04 poster and his long-term interest in high-end computing led to his selection among candidates from top schools across the country.

September '04 - Congratulations to SCAPE team members on acceptance of their SC '04 poster. The competition was especially keen this year (30% acceptance) and SCAPE's poster will be nestled among leading research laboratory and university participants. Co authors include: Rong Ge, Xizhou Feng, Drew Varner, Chris Jones, and Kirk Cameron.

August '04- Congratulations to SCAPE Director Dr. Kirk Cameron on receipt of an Early Career Principal Investigator Award from the Department of Energy. According to DOE, "the purpose of this program is to support research in applied mathematics, computer science and networks performed by exceptionally talented scientists and engineers early in their careers". This prestigious award will provide $300,000 in funding for the SCAPE lab to develop scalable memory performance analysis tools over a 3-year period.

June '04 - Congratulations to SCAPE team members on acceptance of their SC '04 paper. The competition was tight (31% or 59/192 submissions). Authors include Kirk Cameron and Rong Ge. The paper will be presented at SC '04 in Pittsburgh November 10 at 3:30pm.

February '04 - Congratulations to SCAPE Director Dr. Kirk Cameron on receipt of a CAREER Award from the National Science Foundation. According to NSF, "this [program] is a foundation-wide activity that offers the National Science Foundation's most prestigious awards for new faculty members. The CAREER program recognizes and supports the early career-development activities of those teacher-scholars who are most likely to become the academic leaders of the 21st century." This award will provide $400,000 in funding for the SCAPE lab to develop high-performance, power-aware distributed applications over a 5-year period.
